The Children's Crusade

Yes, I do believe the children's crusade happened, perhaps not exactly as the author describes it, but I did find a seemingly reputable website that has a similar story. I think that people back in those days really believed that God could speak to them and was telling them what to do with their lives, the children did not want to be left out of this amazing event.  So, yes, I do believe this happened, to what extent, I do not know.

Roll of Thunder...as a MOVIE!

Sound Track:

Son House- Grinnin’ In Your Face
    http://youtu.be/QA8-ZOuKetU
Bob Dylan (Covered by Rage Against The Machine)-Maggie’s Farm
Johnny Cash- Don’t Take Your Guns to Town

I chose these songs for the way they resemble the story. Son House’s song, really reminds me of the part in the story where Mr. Logan is telling Cassie that she needs to figure out how to behave when around the girl from school who was mean to her. The song Maggie’s Farm, well, I think we are all pretty familiar with it, but I chose the Rage Against the Machine cover of it, because I feel like it portrays the feelings in the book about how they own their own farm and how they are not going to give it up for anyone. The Johnny Cash song is great because it reminds me of them Hammer was going to go find the Simmes and Mama and Big Ma were asking him not to go.
Cast:

Dennis Haysbert-Mr. Logan

Michael Clark Duncan- Mr. Morrison

Lisa Bonet (when she was younger)- Cassie

Jaden Smith- Stacey

Dule Hill-T.J.

Andy Griffith- Mr. Granger

Martin Lawrence- Big Ma

Rupaul- Mama

Stage design:

I would love to have a moving walkway for actors to walk on as if it is the dirt road in the farm fields, you would see the school house, homes and Jeremy's tree house in the background.
The Logan home would also be an installment , with a fireplace and a porch off to the side, it would a sliced open profile of the house so you can see the front porch, inside and back of the house.

Blackberry-Banana Smoothie

I love smoothies. When I read Walk Two Moons and Sal talked about the blackberries her mother ate, it reminded me of smoothies and summer. So, I have decided to create a Blackberry-Banana Smoothie. Here it is:

1 Cup frozen blackberries

1 frozen banana

1 cup vanilla yogurt

½ cup fruit juice

2 tbls ground flax seed

Put everything in a blender and blend until smooth! Drink!

I like to get fresh fruit when it is in season and freeze it myself. It is cheaper to do that than to buy pre-frozen bags of fruit and very easy! I like to use it frozen because then it makes the smoothies nice and cool on a hot day and you don’t have to add ice or anything like that to the mix! Flax seed is also just darn good for you!

After reading this amazing book and making this amazing smoothie, I actually feel like this was someone I knew. The way Sal describes everything in her life is as if I am remembering it too. It was truly and inspriring book about friendship, relationships and life.

Kira-Kira

I could see Katie taking a glass jar and filling it half way with sand and the rest of the way with water from the ocean. Maybe she could find some sort of “sea glass” to put in there. This is a great example of kira-kira from the California Sea to leave at Lynn’s grave. I think Lynn would really appreciate this gesture because she couldn’t be there and Katie found the perfect things to show her sister what it was like. She could even open up the jar and perhaps smell the ocean.
